Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter Matt Andersen will mark Fatherѻý Day with a special livestream performance on Sunday, June 15, at 11 a.m. (PT) via his official YouTube channel.

The event is a tribute to fathers everywhere and will spotlight Andersenѻý heartfelt track “Always Be Your Son”—the emotional closer from his latest album “The Hammer & The Rose”. The stripped-down acoustic ballad is a tribute to his own father and has already drawn critical praise.

“Some of the best parts of me came from my dad,” Andersen said. “It felt right to put that into words.”

Okanagan fans are invited to join the free livestream and are encouraged to make donations to Brigadoon Village, a Nova Scotia-based charity that provides life-changing camp experiences for children and youth living with health conditions and other life challenges.

A live performance video of “Always Be Your Son”, filmed at Rooms Café in Halifax, is available online to offer a preview of the livestream.

Released earlier this year, “The Hammer & The Rose” is Andersenѻý 11th studio album and has been described as one of his most intimate and nuanced to date. Critics have lauded the 10-song collection for its raw emotion and genre-blending style, with Rolling Stone magazine praising it as “a refreshing, uplifting voice in uncertain times.”

RnR Magazine (UK) hailed “Always Be Your Son” as a standout, calling the song “a triumph for both Andersen and his visionary producer.”

The album was recorded live off the floor in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, under the guidance of producer and percussionist Joshua Van Tassel, who encouraged Andersen to highlight the subtler textures of his voice. The result is a warm, stripped-down sound that weaves together influences from Delta blues, Memphis soul, and Appalachian folk.

Andersen is joined on the album by a talented group of musicians, including Afie Jurvanen and Christine Bougie of Bahamas, Aaron Comeau on keys, Kyle Cunjak on acoustic bass, and Van Tassel on percussion.

The livestream is free and open to the public. Fans can tune in at:
