Gospel Mission Christmas
Hundreds of people are expected to attend the annual Christmas lunch to be served Saturday at the ѻý Gospel Mission on Leon Avenue. Volunteers will also pack up and take meals to unhoused people in other parts of the city.
Hundreds of turkey dinners with all the trimmings will be offered inside and outside ѻýѻý Gospel Mission on Saturday.

But staff at the non-profit are appealing for people who might have used the mail to send a donation by cheque to still extend their support now that the one-month postal strike has ended.

“Many donors who prefer to give by cheque have been delayed in their contributions, impacting the timely support we rely on during this critical season,” says Carmen Rempel, the Missionѻý executive director. “We still need your help.”

If donations are received by the mission before the end of December, a charitable tax receipt can be issued for 2024. People can donate online at, make the donation in person at #202-1635 Abbott St., or call 250.763.3737 to donate by phone.

The Christmas meal will be served at noon Saturday at the Missionѻý shelter, 251 Leon Ave.

Last year, volunteers started a new tradition of also taking the meals on the road, to offer them to unhoused people in other parts of ѻý. That outreach effort will take place again on Saturday.
