Police have released that on Thursday, Aug. 7 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Kaslo RCMP responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision in which an SUV left the roadway and rolled down a steep embankment several kilometres up an old mining road off Highway 31.

Emergency crews attended. It was learned that a couple were navigating a narrow section of the road when control was lost, causing their SUV to roll down the embankment.

The passenger a 32-year-old man from Nanaimo was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver, a 30-year-old woman from Lantzville, ѻý, was airlifted to Arrow Lakes Hospital in Nakusp, and later died of her injuries.

The BC Coroners Service is conducting a concurrent investigation.

“We extend our condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragic incident,” says Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson said in a Thursday press release.
